One Month as a Startup Founder

Last week marked one month in my life as a founder and CTO of a startup. Today is also the first day of our accelerator program in Charlotte, NC.

It's often said that on-the-job training is more effective than book learning. I can report in firm conscience that this is true for startups. As a software engineer, I have seen the mistakes and successes of the companies I worked for. But steering the ship is quite different.

I remember pestering my former boss Mohamed about a task that I was waiting on. It was long overdue, because of the SSL certificate authority's hefty demands. At every standup meeting, I would say that my work was being blocked by the lack of the certificate. The certificate was necessary to enable secure traffic with an https internet address. I became frustrated, asking Mohamed why it was taking so long.
