Data Science 101 offers data practitioners, managers, and executives a snapshot into the world of data science. Termed the fasted growing career in 2018 by McKinsey, data science has become a field to apply data insights to business cases to drive organizational results. At General Assembly, Data Science 101 will offer you the opportunity to understand the practicality of the buzz words being thrown around the water cooler, as well as potential technology solutions to explore as you consider to ramp up data in your organization or to take on the data science journey yourself. Core topics over the workshop include: Discover from our instructor about the data science journey, and the different roles that exist in the data science domain. Gain access to leading resources for you to self-start the data science journey, either through podcasts, data repositories, and leading data sites. Explore the data science workflow to understand how data is applied to business cases on a daily basis. Explore essential tools for the data science toolkit, including mental frameworks on how data scientists would analyze, visualize, and model data. Prereqs & Preparation Bring a laptop and install Anaconda beforehand. *Tip: Scroll to your operating system version and click on the install button for Anaconda with Python 3.6. Note: We'll be using Python version 3.6 in this workshop. If you are using a PC, please install the git for windows terminal beforehand. Technical Considerations: For students on Windows, youll need Microsoft Windows 8/10 (32- or 64-bit). For those with Macs, youll need the Mac OS X 10.8.5 or higher, up to 10.11.4 (El Capitan). Upgrade your operating system before class, if needed. Students should have some basic technical aptitude, orientation to computers, and the curiosity to learn new tools.
