Career Coach

The Flatiron School is seeking a Remote Part-Time Career Coach to join our rapidly growing team! At Flatiron School, we're changing education. For more than three years, we've been teaching amazing people how to code and helping them find jobs. We give incredible people the tools to do what they love for a living, and match companies with hires who will do amazing work, take great pride in their craft and view their work as a chance to grow more.

Getting a job can be hard, so our Career Development team supports every student until he or she has a job. Our team counsels students one-on-one to set career goals and provide guidance in the process and also facilitates group workshops on important job search topics like networking and interviewing best practices. That’s how we support the school’s overall 98% job placement rate.

The Career Coach will:

  • Build rapport with our students that allow for you to give direct and actionable feedback (verbally and in writing)

  • Equip students with the tools to land a fulfilling job as a developer by modeling core job search skills like interviewing, resume preparation, and Linkedin research for networking

  • Manage a roster of job-seeking students

  • Advise students on the state of the job market, setting expectations around what to expect during the job search

  • Be available to counsel and advise students who have sudden job search needs around interviews or job offers or need a motivational boost during the job search

  • Work with students to help them leverage their existing networks, and build new relationships in order to gain access to their own job opportunities

  • Help students manage a pipeline of opportunities from “identification” (outreach or application) to “close” (job offer)

  • Hold student accountable to the Terms of Service they sign upon enrollment

A successful Career Coach is/has:

  • Coached people through career or educational transitions in the past

  • Able to build trust and connection quickly

  • Intrinsic empathy for the student experience

  • A social work background or have experience in workforce development, or you’ve had a job in human resources

  • You aren’t currently working in a full-time position (35+ hours per week) elsewhere and are looking for part-time/freelance work

About Flatiron School

Flatiron School teaches passionate, creative people how to code. We’ve been teaching since 2012, and now we’re developing software and programs to bring our successful curriculum to more students. We are more than just a school — we are a team of mission-driven individuals trying to align education with reality. Over our five years as a school, we’ve helped over one thousand students learn to code and launch careers in tech. To achieve these outcomes, we’ve never let ourselves stop growing – we’ve constantly iterated on our curriculum, evolved our teaching techniques, and created technology to improve our students’ learning experience.

For the next step in our growth, Flatiron School has joined the WeWork family. In WeWork, we’ve found a partner who shares the mission we’ve had since the beginning: to enable passionate people to learn the skills they need to pursue careers and lives they love. And that mission won’t change. As part of WeWork, we look forward to working together to expand our in-person and online programs and further increase accessibility to our transformative education.
