The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government's economic development agency based at British Embassies and Consulates globally. DIT USA is charged with transatlantic trade development between the UK and the US and with assisting US companies looking to invest in the UK. See www.gov.uk/DIT for further information. The British Consulate in New York is hiring an Investment Officer within DIT for the technology and creative industries. This position will be responsible for assisting New York area tech & creative companies (from scale-up to Fortune 1000) launch and grow their businesses in the UK. The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of advertising/ad-tech, immersive/entertainment technology, enterprise software, cyber security, artificial intelligence, SaaS platforms, and data analytics. Roles and responsibilities: Deliver an ambitious numerical target of assisting US companies launch their businesses in the UK. Forge strong relationships with business leaders (start-ups through Fortune 500), VCs, industry associations, and incubators/accelerators. Identify what a "UK market ready" company looks like and develop a pipeline of companies that have UK investment potential through warm and cold outreach led by Associates. Provide comprehensive account management to US creative/technology companies already located in the UK and encourage business expansion. Gather intelligence from US tech & creative companies on the UK business environment, Brexit and related policies. Participate in & speak at events conducted by industry associations to build awareness of DIT and the UK's proposition. Devise external activities to generate new business leads on limited government budget. Deliver high level/VIP visit programs for senior government officials. Maintain current knowledge of UK market trends & incentives (R&D grants, film tax credits, etc.) to promote to US companies. Monitor US market trends and identify emerging opportunities for investment into the UK from the New York Area. Undertake occasional travel to Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, and the UK. Share management responsibility of two associates that have concurrent outreach, lead generation, account management, event, and data management responsibilities. Bring excitement and enthusiasm to an existing 4 person team!

Qualifications

Other skills / experience / qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field. 6-8 years of relevant experience and a solid understanding of both the US and the UK business environments. Ability to credibly deal with companies and organizations at a senior level, with a proven record of fostering business relationships. Management experience; Experience of delivering high impact activity on low budget; Clear motivation and personal commitment to meeting challenging targets with a demonstrable track record of achievement. Proactive, self-starting approach to work; ability to deliver effectively under limited day-to-day supervision in a deadline sensitive, fast-paced, low budget environment. An excellent network of industry contacts in the tech & creative industries in US, or the ability to develop such a network. Excellent communication skills and the ability to present effectively; Strong networking and influencing skills. Collaborative attitude & approach to work with tight-knit tech & creative team of 4, wider NY team of 30, and overall US tech & creative teams. Valid driver's license and passport; The ability to attend events outside of office hours; The ability to undertake domestic and international air travel, including overnight stays.
