Leonardo DiCaprio is the latest celebrity to invest in this Manhattan startup

Manhattan-based Qloo, which developed an application that offers major brands such as Twitter, PepsiCo and BMW insights into what customers like, has raised $4.5 million

Manhattan-based startup Qloo, pronounced "clue," has nabbed another celebrity backer—Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio. He joins star investors, comedian Cedric the Entertainer and That '70s Show star Danny Masterson in backing the firm.

The developer of a recommendation application announced Wednesday that it has raised $4.5 million in a round of funding from DiCaprio, Barry Sternlicht of Starwood Capital Group and Pierre Lagrange of GLG Partners. Founded in 2012, the tech startup has raised $7 million to date.

The money will be used to expand the company's current staff of 10 and its customer base. It will also be used to enhance Qloo's technology, which predicts what types of books, movies, TV shows and fashion individuals like and dislike based on their taste in specific areas like music.
