Please note this is a two-part class, taking place on Tuesday, November 27 from 7–8:30pm and on Thursday, November 29 from 7–8:30pm. This workshop will prepare you to put your best foot forward the next time you apply for a grant. The goal of this course is to help you gain confidence in your fundraising and proposal writing abilities and provide you with a solid road map to begin the process. CURRICULUM PLAN The course is taught by Tracie Holder, a filmmaker and consultant, who has raised over $2.4 million for her own projects. In the first part of the class, Tracie will talk about fundraising for your project in general terms and review several key rules that apply no matter where you are looking for funding – whether you’re applying for a grant, doing a crowdfunding campaign, or cultivating individual donors. We’ll also discuss how best to identify potential funders. The second part will cover the specific components of a proposal, how to convey ideas visually, and strike a balance between the big, broad brushstroke ideas and small details that make your project come alive on the page. We’ll look at excerpts from successful grant applications and discuss what makes an effective proposal. What You Will Learn: – Learn how to incorporate proposal writing into your artistic practice and move your project forward. – Learn about the most common mistakes made when writing grant fundraising proposals – and how to avoid them. – Understand the funding process from the potential funder’s perspective to become a more effective fundraiser and proposal writer. – Develop a comprehensive framework for proposal writing that will give you direction and confidence going forward.
