In this half-day workshop with Rich Mironov, you'll dig into the role of the product leader and how you can get there. You'll do some skills-building, group exercises, safely ask candid career questions, and ponder whether that next-job-up is one you want. Rich is a 35-year veteran of Silicon Valley product management with 6 startups under his belt. He is a smokejumper product executive - parachuting into software companies to run product teams on an interim basis - and has coached scores of product leaders. He's been blogging about software product management since 2002 and his Art of Product Management (2008) was one of the first books on the subject. This workshop is perfect for anyone thinking about moving up the product org chart, or newly promoted product leaders wanting stronger peer support. Product managers, senior product owners, design/research leads - Learn how product leadership differs from individual contributor product (and design) roles. Get a taste of the new challenges, skills, conflicts and organizational ju jitsu of great product leaders. Safely talk about your own goals and ways to demonstrate interest/readiness for Director/VP/CPO opportunities. Product directors, VP, CPOs - Most newly promoted product leaders have little internal peer support for understanding and defining their roles. New challenges demand fresh skills and organizational strategies. Familiar product work pulls us back into execution mode. We'll share real world experiences and discover that other leaders wrestle with the same issues.
