Overview

Columbia Angel Group & Entrepreneurs (CAGE) was launched in January 2016 to source, fund, and champion angel investment with Columbia alumni, across the globe. We aim to create a profound impact on the startup and venture communities within New York City and emerging startup hubs worldwide.

Educate: The organization was established by alumni from multiple schools within Columbia University, that shared a passion for entrepreneurship, early-stage investing, and a desire to engage and educate Columbia alumni in investing in innovation.

Engage: The organization has been building a legacy to instill a culture of diligent and sophisticated early stage venture investment practices for future generations of the Columbia Family.

VISION

CAGE seeks to create one of the top alumni angel groups in the world. We harness the collective passion, expertise, resources and influence within Columbia’s alumni network, to support the venture ecosystem.

  • CAGE provides opportunities for students to get involved, learn, and grow

  • CAGE engages interested alumni with regular events and opportunities for mentoring and investing

  • CAGE fosters an international community, connected through education and promotes a collaborative approach to early-stage investment

OPERATING PRINCIPLES                                                                                      We are guided by these principles in accomplishing our mission:
  • Train future generations of Columbia alumni to invest in tomorrow’s most promising start-ups

  • Enhance Columbia’s entrepreneurial brand and engagement, both locally and globally

  • Educate Columbia alumni locally and globally on angel investing and alternative forms of venture investment

  • Achieve a successful and sustainable return on investments that leverages Columbia’s vast resources and influential alumni network

  • Continuously adopt the latest technology and tools for optimal communication to facilitate interaction, engagement, and collaboration across alumni - including industry experts, investors and mentors. It is our belief that the organization should be as innovative as the early stage startups for which we champion.

  • Share lessons and best practices across the Columbia alumni network on the "how-to's" of angel investing through hands-on engagement and education.

  • Empower alumni across the world to establish charters to invest in startups in their "backyard" with fellow alumni.

  • Strengthen bonds between international alumni within their respective venture communities and entrepreneurial ecosystems.

  • Deepen the ties between Columbia University and its alumni as a whole by highlighting the importance and appeal of entrepreneurship
