De Blasio welcomes Google to Pier 57, calls growth 'an incredible New York success story'

Mayor Bill de Blasio thanked Google for making its biggest complex outside of its Silicon Valley home even bigger

The lease was signed in December. But on Thursday, Mayor Bill de Blasio officially welcomed Google's expansion of its Chelsea campus to the new development taking place farther west, on the Hudson River Park at Pier 57.

The tech giant, which has more than 5,000 employees in New York, was named the anchor tenant of the soon-to-be-rehabilitated pier last year. Crain's first reported that Google would be expanding to Pier 57. It will have 250,000 square feet of office space at the Eleventh Avenue and West 15th Street location when its $350 million renovation is completed next year.
