Mobile Data Firm PlaceIQ Raises $25 Million

PlaceIQ, which helps brands track how well their ads work using location data from consumers’ mobile phones, has raised $25 million in series D funding.

The new cash infusion will be used to hire more staff’ ramp up its U.S. operations, including beefing up its analytics and measurement capabilities, and expand internationally, said PlaceIQ’s chief executive and co-founder Duncan McCall.

The company has now raised over $50 million from investors since it was founded in 2010, Mr. McCall said.

New York-based PlaceIQ compiles anonymous location data from mobile apps, which the company says provides a window into the movements of 100 million mobile devices in the U.S. PlaceIQ says it tracks 10 billion location-enabled device movements each day.
