Overview

panOpen combines faculty-curated open source content and leading learning technologies in a seamless, easy-to-use platform. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on textbooks, students pay a small platform fee for access to high quality and technologically-rich open source courseware and tools. The institutional benefit is massive, as the application lowers educational costs while improving student learning outcomes.

Founder and CEO

Brian Jacobs

Dr. Brian Jacobs is the founder and CEO of panOpen. He also founded Akademos, an online bookstore and textbook marketplace, and currently sits on its board as Chairman. As an academic from Cornell, Brian directly experienced the inefficiencies of the textbook industry. He saw that emerging technologies could lower costs and improve student learning outcomes. Brian holds an M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell University.
