Overview

ELIA Life develops and sells tactile hardware (keyboards, computer displays and printers) and software (fonts and assistive programs) for people who have a visual impairment (including the blind). Its products enable end users to maintain their independently and literacy. Customers include individual consumers, their families, and institutions, such as the Veteran's Administration, disability insurance companies, employers, and school systems.

Andrew Chepaitis

Andrew founded ELT and has led its R&D, financing, and business development efforts. This includes executing >$1.25 million in grants, building the IP portfolio, raising financing, authoring peer-reviewed journal articles, and forging partnerships with leading organizations serving the blind. He is a grant reviewer for NIH. He earned a BA in International Business from Lehigh and is a former equity research analyst.

Maureen Lincoln

Ms. Lincoln brings 25 years of engineering experience - including start-ups in the service and consumer product markets. She Lincoln manages products from their concept phase, to SBIR application and execution, through to manufacturing and future improvement. With her technical training (MIT, BSME 1987) and proven product development team the Company is well poised to successfully develop and launch its suite of innovative products.

Christopher Woodward, CPA

Christopher has 20 years of CFO, operations, accounting and management consulting experience with large multi-billion dollar enterprises Comcast, Sony, Union Bank of California and Ernst & Young as well as several startup and high growth companies. He has had success steering organizations through financing processes, M & A and other strategic transactions. He is an active CPA. He earned a BS in Accounting from Lehigh University (1991).

Chief Science Officer

Christopher Camacho, Ph.D.

Christopher led the research and development at Children’s Progress - from proof-of-concept through to commercialization. He was instrumental to growing the company to become an Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Small Business. He was PI on several SBIR grants totally over $2 million from the NIH, the NSF and D of Ed. He earned his BS, MA and Ph.D. in Psychology from Columbia University (2004) where he was a NSF Scholar and a National Hispanic Scholar.

Electrical Engineer

Steven Getz

Mr. Getz has an extensive background in electrical, software and systems engineering, physical electronics, electromagnetics, and computer hardware and software design. He most recently held the position of Director of Technology Assessment for Animas Corporation, a venture capital funded company. He is a graduate of Drexel University (BS, Electrical Engineering, 1987) and Pennsylvania State University (MS, Electrical Engineering, 1994).

Mechanical Engineer

Donald Van Royen

Donald has 20 years of mechanical engineering experience. He has contributed to and led projects for Ciba Vision, OXO, BD and Stryker. Mr. Van Royen worked on the International Space Station, Space Shuttle Endeavor, and Submarine Life Support Systems. He is a graduate of the University of Hartford (1987) with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Industrial Designer

Reed DeWinter

Reed’s experience includes contributing to and leading a broad scope of usability and design programs, including orthopedic instrumentation for Stryker Orthopedics, consumer electronics and branding for MTV. His work incorporates user-friendly, ergonomic and aesthetic features, while maintaining functional, manufacturing, and cost requirements for projects. Mr. DeWinter earned a BS in Industrial Design from the University of Cincinnati (1999).

Mechanical Engineer - Manufacturing

Walter Stoekmann

Walter has product development experience in the medical, industrial, and consumer product markets. His design-for-manufacturing capabilities include high and low volume production, material selection, and automated assembly. He leads the sourcing efforts for the team He has worked with companies such as 3M Corp, Zimmer Orthopaedics, Perkin Elmer and Convatec. He holds an BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire (1986).

Usability Research and Operations

Michelle Crimins, Ph.D.

Michelle was the head of operations for the company’s basic usability research grant. This study compared the ELIA and Braille alphabets. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University (2007) and a BA in Psychology from Barnard College of Columbia University (2000). Dr. Crimins serves as the project organizer and coordinator for the Company’s basic research grants, as well as its statistical analyst for hardware testing.
